Robbo of the roads Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 G'Day everyone, I was wondering if anyone has experienced the problem that plagues my GQ.at times. It blows the instrument cluster fuse and this renders all of the gauges, including the speedo useless. The tacho spins wildly and all other gauges cease to operate at all.The charge light stays illuminated when the fuse blows. There is no pattern to it.The fuse may blow 3 or 4 times a day, then it may go for weeks before it blows again.I have had the circuits tested and have been told they cannot find fault with any of the gauge circuits at all.I have reverted to having a couple of packs of 10 amp fuses in the console and just change the fuse when it blows.Any advice would be greatly appreciated ladies and gents as it is pissing me off .Thanks
Rumcajs Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Is there a way for you to measure the alternator voltage output? Also, I'd check alternator ground/earth. Another check would be to run headlights and see if the fuse blows than. Otherwise you'll need to check what else is connected to that fuse. Cheers Edited February 20, 2014 by Rumcajs
Robbo of the roads Posted February 22, 2014 Author Report Posted February 22, 2014 Thanks for the reply.I have checked the wiring diagram in the service manual, and the instrument cluster is the only part of the circuitry of the rig that this fuse protects.Everything else is on a separate circuit. The headlights aren't on this circuit and do not contribute to the problem.I haven't checked the alternator earth yet but will do so and get back to you. Thanks again
Yendor Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 The reverse lights also run via this fuse. Check your reverse lights an trailer plug harness for damage. Rumcajs 1
