What is a ras Pi and what does it do...excuse my ignorance

You can't stay away from any 4x4 forum can you? :P

Anyhoo, a Raspberry Pi is basically a mini (credit card sized) computer that runs on a version of Linux. It's absolutely bare bones, so that you can do just about anything you want with it (in a PC sense), given talent and incentive. Some clever soul has even managed to run Windows 7 on it.

You could one of these gadgets for the truck. When the Missus goes shopping and looses the car just get out the iPhone and the horn/alarm goes off its rocker, car found. Plus very embarrassed wife...ha ha

These things need to connect to the internet from what I read, so I don't think they'll work remotely unless you devise a data connection.

They connect to the internet via wifi in the home and could most likely work off a public wifi network, but failing that, would need a mobile internet connection.

My iPhone can be a portable hotspot. Anyhow I was only kicking about hooking it up to a car. I have lived in the country almost all of my life and those BIG car parks are bloody intimidating.

Choices, choices:

Aching to nab yourself a computer-on-a-stick before then? If you're willing to step down in specs, the Chinese-made MK802 could be the PC in your pocket. For $74 (versus $199 for the Cotton Candy), this 7-ounce device gives you a 1.5-GHz Allwinner A10 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and, like the Cotton Candy, Android 4.0.

I'm really looking forward to the day that one of these articles get posted with "they are available right now from xyz... rather than "we don't know when pre orders will be taken."

And then... need to port the ecutalk software to android.... that would be cool.
