PaulM Posted April 7, 2023 Report Posted April 7, 2023 Hello everybody, It's about my good old Patrol Y61 (GR 2,8 TDi). Model for the European continent, 1999 After a long trip to Swedish Lappland and medical troubles the Patrol was not in use for many months. So, I installed a new battery and tried to start up. Didn't take a second and the Patrol was alive. So, I thought : I'll let it run for 15' or so... When I came outside the engine had stopped. No way to start it up again... My first observation was that the indicator for the glowing did not work so I checked the fuse : OK, then the glowing relay : OK. The fuse does not get any signal. Next thing I remembered was that there must be a signal from a heat-sensor (I didn't check this yet because it's dark here at this moment) and a glowing timer. Now it comes to the problem : I don't find anything such as this glowing timer. Can somebody help me ? (We have the steering wheel on the left in driving direction, so I will stand and look from the front towards the engine). The only thing I can think is that the glowing time is controlled by the CPU, but on the other side I see that there are spare parts called "glowing timer relay"... Greetz from Belgium PaulM
PaulM Posted April 9, 2023 Author Report Posted April 9, 2023 I just found out that fuse nr. 47 is blown... a new one was blown immediately. This is responsible for "charge" (electrical scheme), what's does that mean ? On the fuse box is mentioned "engine control"... Other information leads to "generator"... Ohm measurement between the out the fuse socket and 0 V reads 800 Ohm, changing the probes gives a 1, meaning : no connection. Makes me take about diode-problems in the alternator (during my trips in the Icelandic interior I've been through deep water hundreds of times). Regulator ?
Rumcajs Posted April 11, 2023 Report Posted April 11, 2023 Glow relay is directly controlled by engine ECU it grounds the relay for its timer operation.... Positive supply is for both actual glow power and control from same fuse 100A.
