Tristan Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 Hey all, I am looking at getting some new shocks for my coil cab gu and want the best possible ride. Kings are a bit outside my budget however I have been looking at Amada extremes (heard great things about these), SRC shocks (bit pricier, have they fixed the issues with the seals popping out?), and Profender shocks (haven't heard too much other than they are a bit soft for a daily driven patrol). Anyone have any experience with any of these or any other brands you suggest?
Evil! Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 Iv herd good things about the Armada's but no real life experiance in my hands, best shocks iv owned so far would be the 45mm Tough Dog adjustable shocks for the front they are great but the rear im not liking them. When you do decide on a shock please post up your experiance with them as ill def be in the market for Armada's in a few months
cravenhaven Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 I put toughdog 45mm adjustables in the rear late last year and love them. My rig is a gu ute and we carry a slideon camper so I put the shocks on level 3 when the camper is on and back to level 1 when its off. Makes a huge difference in comfort and control. I had OME shocks all round before and they were absolutely stuffed, now the missus can read the map without getting carsick (the other female mapreading issues still exist unfortunately) Evil! 1
Tristan Posted May 7, 2012 Author Report Posted May 7, 2012 Thanks for the replies guys, I have just found you can get Kings valved to suit patrols pretty cheap from the states so I am leaning towards that option http://downsouthmotorsports.com/c-129233-all-oem-replacement-shocks-king-oem-performance-series-shock-kits-king-performance-kits-for-the-nissan-patrol.html tailpipez 1
The Big Rig Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Suspension stuff shocks seem to get a good report and Shane has just released a new shock as well Evil! 1
cairnsGU Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 I've been pretty impressed with my iron man foam cells. Dan
Tristan Posted May 10, 2012 Author Report Posted May 10, 2012 Ok so I have talked to a local dealer of King and he says don't get the ones from USA as they have different valving, he says he has his own custom valving that he recommends. Now obviously he is trying to sell me his product however he is a trusted friend and I have known him for a long time. Anyone know if there is truth in what he is saying? Do they really have different valving?
Big gu Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 I'm looking at amadas too but haven't read anywhere from people with them
Tristan Posted May 10, 2012 Author Report Posted May 10, 2012 I like the Amadas as well, especially the built in bump stops. Also keep thinking of what else I could get with the money I save buying Amadas over kings. Superior told me they are dropping SRC shocks due to supply issues
heyhey Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 There was a thread on Amadas being under engineered on the old forum, Old Mand Emu (OME) sound like they have a good product and I was chatting to Shane from Suspension Stuff yesterday and he mentioned his is bringing out his own brand of Remote Res Shocks in a few weeks. I have dibs on a set and will see how they perform. Straight up the high country then out for the forum meet and we'll see what they are like.
Big gu Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 Do tell more about the new remote res shocks I know he has just released a monotube for us
heyhey Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 Don't know anything else at the moment, but they will be priced quite reasonably, at this stage they won't be avaliable for a while Watch this space

Do they really have different valving? Yes they do, iv had kings I bought from sonny, and would buy again happily, but they are valved' better by Allan cuthill if that's who you are talking about, I took mine to him to get revalved and shimmed after I got them from the states, it actually isn't much cheaper getting them direct by the time you stuff around trying to get them to work properly, I'm just going to get them from Allan this time. I got a quote yesterday for new kings. I have personally watched him strip/build these shocks.
Jacket_1985 Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 I've been pretty impressed with my iron man foam cells. Dan Me to actually. Very cheap shock, and a little jiggly if I'm critical(high speed dampening) but for half the price of ome you can't go wrong. I would pay the extra and buy ome, but I had ironman foam cells for a year in my guiv. Like I say, impressive.
tailpipez Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 Value for money you cant go past the Amadas. They are reusable, rebuild able, good for slow and fast driving and they are made especially for GQ GU. For $285 each you cant go wrong. Mick
nikko mercado Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 how about bilsteins?anyone tried it?
TheLocksmith Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 how about bilsteins?anyone tried it? M8 just got kings with bilsteins and is very happy
mitch Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 hey guys i m thnking of putting 5" efs extreme shock in my GQ but i want to keep it on 2" coils is this possible or will i need to do other modfications?? cheers mitch
Rumcajs Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 G'day mate, Uhm, I don't think so, the 5" shocks are just too long and you will have more success with 3" shocks on 2" coils. Regards
Lost-Benji Posted May 8, 2016 Report Posted May 8, 2016 I run +2 inch springs and had stock shocks (previous owners mess). Had a set of dobinson 2" lifted shocks fitted, rig runs well.
