Yep - Its going to have rules.

Post Counts:

Today I have edited the following forums so they dont allow post count increments..

Policical Crappery - Sorry Mavtroll :P

General - Sorry gottheshits :P

Polls

Forum News

Banter / Censorship:

While I dont want to censor anyone - This place is a PATROL and General 4x4 / Camping / Touring forum. Its not somewhere to push your political agenda - Theres no point trying to convice the other side of your views - they dont listen. I would also like to ask that people discuss - not argue, theres been a fair bit of shit up on the patrol4x4 forum that ends up in mud slinging and thats of no use to anyone.

Your free to discuss Labor vs Liberal vs Greens - in the political section - just make it friendly. Rule edited 17/05/2012. Political Section Removed.

Your free to discuss solar vs nuclear - Again, no point in trying to convince anyone of anything - they wont listen. Rule edited 17/05/2012. Political Section Removed.

Your free to discuss your mates Prado to - just dont bloody argue which is better.

Admin is Boss:

Lets get one thing straight - I run this place. If you dont like it, Leave. :-)

Money:

In an effort to be fair and upfront...

Believe it or not, this place costs real money to setup - Forum license fees, classifieds license fees, hosting fees, graphic artwork fees and my time - all cost money. At some point im going to attempt to recoupt those costs - and possibly more. This may mean voluntary donations, premium account options for enhanced features, advertising, vendors sections etc. Unfortunatly it cannot run without these things - Real money doesn't grow on trees.

Advertising:

No advertising outside businesses - Not your own, or anyone else's. If we allow this, the place will become one big advertisement. This goes for signatures and posts.

Other Stuff:

Your adults - think for yourself.

Post Content: (Rule added 17/05/2012)

This is a private membership based discussion - You post here on the condition that the administrators may edit or remove your posts as they see fit. Requests for post removals will generally be ignored. Just like real life, once you say somthing, you cannot take it back. Admin however reserves the right to remove, edit or keep your post for the good of the community. If you dont like it, leave. Posts made after 17/05/2012 will be concidered posted under this rule.

Ownership Details: (Added 9/07/2012)

This forum trades under the ABN: 79172986749. MYPATROL4x4 is a registered business name.

I don't care about post count lol, I just like somewhere to conduct political banter - and I don't know if it's possible, but can donations open another area that allows us to really get into our discussions ;-) half the fun of the old forum was the great mix of people and opinions (eg ray vs bbm)

I opened your Political area... you can discuss it all you want in there!

If you want to go all Neo on us, I can open up another area for the hard core nutz.

Donation widget is up - On the right side of home page :-)

Cool. As soon as I can get to a normal computer I'll be dropping in a donation to help out with the running / set up costs.

Thanks again,

Dronus..

Added no advertising rule today.. See top post.

OK, you may need to define advertising for me, If I have good service from a place and someone on the Sunny Coast is looking for a place to get something done, can I make a suggestion to them?

When we say in a thread you can pick up the bits you need for your Dawes/EGT sender install at Pirtek/Air and lift gear, is that classed as advertising?

I dont mind gueniune reccommendations - If someone asks, or if you write a tutorial - Like the how to fit the EGT sensor tutorial.. I dont mind that at all. But putting links in signatures or just posting stuff like 'Hey, I found this cheap thing at joes widgets' - that sort of stuff isnt on..

Hopefully thats fair.

It's already

I'm grateful for the information and took advantage. I've also seen many posts elsewhere pointing out purchase opportunities (aldi, bcf etc). I think it's part of a communities communication, mates sharing information. When I get my product I'll update the thread with pics and comment.

Yeah, I left that post inplace (it was there prior to me making the advertising rule) - the rule came about due to a member advertising a company in their signature.

What I dont want to see is people with interests in companies placing ads on here.

Can we get some clarification on this? I was hesitant to mention a company in response to another post, because doing so appeared to conflict with what you've described and I hadn't seen this thread when I put up my DIYs. Sometimes mentioning, or providing a link to, a product or supplier helps with explaining things in a response. Blatant advertising of self-interest is understandable, but I'm now not quite sure about mentioning specific products or suppliers in posts.

Cheers

Ray

I think it's ok if you are selling a set of tyres..... Chuck up a single line in your sig.

I think it's ok if you have found a place selling arb gear at half price, or a joint that has great service..... I want to hear about it! Same goes for a build thread, I get asked all the time where/how much I pay for bits, at that point I'm happy to give a great business a plug.... But if that same business came on here and randomly started posting up for sale threads or hijacking threads to say, I can sell you this..... Etc. Uncool.

Promotion of business is different from giving a business a good report or saying where/how much you got stuff for.

Agree.

BUT!!

What about a situation, where as someone like myself can offer forumites really good deals (less than wholesale) on ice, block ice and dry ice for their camping trips and parties and what not. Not much chance if I can't put my Business name and number up. I would'nt pay for a vendors add cos at near cost, there nothin in it. It's an add and bit of a favour at the same time.

EDIT, iv thought of a way to explain it.

Say you had a line in your sig "need ice for camping? PM me. . . mates rates" and you commented in a thread on 6.5chev conversions about your experience with brunswick etcetc everyone reads it. . . no problem.

Now say you participate in that same thread but instead of having info about your 6.5chev in your comment, you simply had it in your signature (like you do) and post that you could sell the OP ice at awesome rates, . . . everyone is like wtf?

If i was a mod, and you posted that comment in that thread, i would simply delete it as spam, and send you a pm asking you not to do it again.

Same info typed, same info read. . . . . it would come down to intent i'd say.

That IMO is advertising a business, I can appreciate that the cost of registering as a vendor may not be worth it, but your putting a detail up for a business your connected to and gaining from.

That is so nasty. I really really want to stay here but I wanna see what the button does too.

Thats like putting a link up for boobies and saying dont touch.

Can you tell us what it does. Is it immediate bye bye or is there a couple of steps.

Im to scared to try........
