A basic Guide to Using Veg oils as Fuel.
BigGQWesty replied to Glort's topic in General Patrol Discussion
How many L does a poly filter usually last Glort? I'm thinking of grabbing the 20' 5 micron for the final, shopping bag for primary. Is this enough or would you go a 30-40 micron filter in there? -
Well it ran.. A solid hour but backfiring every minute or so.. The way I look at it is with the cuts facing down it creates the turbulence you were talking about. I will cut down the chamber (thinking 80-100mm lower) and put the main pipe to the centre and down.. Once it's going it roars... Live it.. Might have the whole house on WMO soon. Heat and car...

Yes was intending on using the shopping bag trick for the first filter. Need to get some clean drums.. -
Ok more holes.. 5 now around the back... BUT.. It's not burning in the chamber and every now a then back burns with a huge flame ball on the outside.. Photo caught the last flicker..

Well mk1 is a fail.. 2L of petty down and the thing won't stay lit.. Even with petrol... Either one of 2 things are happening.. 1- not enough air.. I have a 1' ball valve on the front, and 2 13mm holes in the rear.. 2- could be the secondary.. I can see the flames burning at the top of the chamber, but nothing going past. Ideas?

And how well do poly spun filters work? Something like this 5 x 5 Micron Poly Spun Sediment Water Filter Cartridges 10" x 2.5" (2-2GA) http://bit.ly/PO7cqn -

I did see the 'black' diesel mentioned in a thread.. And got me thinking.. If ships run on crude, why can't I. Haven't got reading about it yet but I'll ask Bogmaster about it.. Engine oil is nothing to find. I work in a timber mill.. The grabs and loaders I repair drop 30-40L every 2-3weeks.. I hit the machnic up yesterday arvo for 20L, he drop of 60 with no issue.. Lol -
Ps, I'm a BM by trade so welding is my strong point. Love the arc welder..

Bugga Glort.. Lol. It's just a flush mount on the side. Nothing inside. Owell I'll give it a crack. Can always cut it off for mk2... But I was intending on making the flu the secondary burn. I was going to ask you about that. How many holes, what angle is the flow (up or down) and how big have you made the holes. I'm going to slot my flue in a pattern and the press in (above or below the cut depending on your answer to flow direction) the pipe to make the hole.. My main concern is the chamber. I think it may be to tall and might need a chop. But well see..

Ok I'm grabbing (hopefully) 60L of WVO tonight. I thought although it's not constant, it's an extra $100 in my pocket.. So I was thinking of using painters filters.. Not sure of the micron tainting but I'd assume it would be pretty fine. Maybe overkill.. But is that all you do Glort? Filter it, thin it and then in the car? -
Well the 9kg bottles are in the shed.. 60L of oil being grabbed now.. Hopefully the 4" s/s flu is being grabbed now. And good idea with the diesel Bog. I'm going to try a fire lighter. They burn for 15 mins so that should be long enough..
-
Oil to be used and a lil petrol...
-
Well I'm going to try using 9kg gas bottle for the base, and hopefully a mate of mine can grab some 4" s/s for me today.. Also going to try make a butterfly valve. Might try an auto feeder from a 20L drum gravity fed.
-
Never fail to excite Glort. .. Will keep my eyes open for that one.. Well you have made my next project.. Going to make a shed heater to start.
-
Cool.. Very cool.. So. Were have you sourced the fans from? They are very neat and compact.. I like the idea of a remote butterfly valve? Are you meaning remote but still change by hand or control from a dial inside the house remote?? And how do you like your? Oxy? Read heads lighting cube?? Petrol? And were ow were did you score the inline fan and ducting from??? Guessing that is the most expensive part of it all..???

Keen as Glort. Anything is possible if you have connections...
-
Well Glort, seeing the fuel oil didn't work hopefully I can save a few bucks on wood.. Lots of pics.

Geeze guys.. It's a forum.. You choose what you read.. His threads are what keep things ticking over.. If you don't like it, don't open it... I quite like reading rays threads. Well most of them, if a topic doesn't interest me, I just move past it.. It's not to hard to roll the mouse wheel one more click...

All that I visited today were accounted for and the chain places all use the large vat like KFC and don't want a bar of it. Going to do the other half tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some of the hotels onside.
