Possible fuel starvation
skid replied to skid's topic in Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)
I already had the feeling of fuel starvation before I added the other filter and replaced the existing one, putting the foot down I was lucky to get 3000RPM out of her -
I know this is an old post sorry, I have read many places about "the tiny thimble size filter" Just replaced my filter and added a water separator type one with a glass bowl as a pre filter to the standard one, I have been experiencing when I really give it berries up a hill from around the 2K-3K rev mark it hesitates as though it is starving of fuel, But if I rev it when I'm parked, it revs out well up to the 4K mark with no hesitation. I followed the instructions here today to try and get the "the tiny thimble size filter" out but it appears there isn't one in there as I can poke a bit of wire about 2-3 inches down the hole. I've only owned the truck for two months, it was originally a 200 GU 3Ltr but when the guy blew the motor up he put a 1990 silver top in. When I was getting the air con re-gassed 2 weeks ago the guy made comment that the injector pump looks new, I've read that some of the later model cars don't have that tiny filter, if the pump is in fact new could it be a case of if or when it was reco'd that they never put the tiny filter in? Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

I got a GU about 2 months ago, too the rated recover points off my old GQ, the holes line up, but I cant figure out how to mount the one on the passengers side, as unlike the GQ which had the chassis rail open to get a plate in there the GU chassis rails taper up to a point at the front, is there a trick to getting nuts in there to mount recovery points?

What is the redline for a TD42?
skid replied to skid's topic in Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 (GU Patrol, 1999–2016)
yes all the running gear is from when it was a zd30, I've read that the gear boxes behind the 4.2 and the 3.0 were the same... -

I can only notice the puff of white smoke when I start it, and its just a puff, once running no smoke from exhaust... If it was the head as in your statement, wouldn't it be constant? -

I get a puff of white smoke when I start it when its been standing for a little while, cant tell the color of the smoke at night its more of a haze, did notice the other day when I took off from a set of lights the car behind me backed off as there was smoke, which was dark but wouldnt say black.... -

You have me concerned about the "brave" comment What about the smoke? its more noticeable at night with headlights behind me looking in the rear vision mirror... What about the boost falling away when I rev it out? Are these things normal? -
What is the redline for a TD42? I have a 2000 GU which had a heart transplant being a 1990 silver top turbo, as the truck was originally a 3.0 ZD and still has all the original guages would like to know where I can safely rev it to... Also is it normal for it to blow smoke when I hit the pedal and it boosts up to 12PSI?

There is no noise at all, when I use the front washers you can hear the motor but when I try and use the rear washer no noise at all, was planning on swapping the front and rear wiring around tomorrow to confirm if the motor is dead.... Will a pump motor from a GQ fit? Where will the fuses be located?
-
My rear washer has stopped working, I've tried geting my wife to turn it on whiule I listen for a motor going some where but cant hear it, is it like the GQ where the front and rear washers are connected to the bottle under the bonnet?

Where do I find this combination meter and its connections as shown in your post?

I've installed and after market alarm system with remote start feature, how ever being a diesel the instruction says the tachometer wire needs to be connected, The closest thing I can find in my manuals relating to this is the engine speed sense that then goes to the tacho in the dash, Its a 2000 GU with a 1990 TD42 in it, Any help would be appreciated...

Using a test light started about an inch from the plug and there was power to the sence light, but at the plug its self nothing, cut wires off plug, added a little more wire so was not as scretched, put on spade connectors and now have a live sence wire, too it for a drive were yesterday it would have been hitting 15V+ now reading 14.3-14.4 on my battery monitors... am a happy chappy now its working but am pissed off that I may have bought a new lternator for nothing as there may have been nothing wrong with the origonal on.....

I installed a projector battery monitor on tuesday, today the alam in it went off saying it was pumping 15.2 volts, I spoke to my auto elecy and he said the alternator was stuff so I bought a new one today, it is rated at putting out a max of 14.7 V, After a short drive when everything warmed up the alarm went off again saying it was putting out over 15 V. I call the sparky back on of the guys there said to check to make sure there wasnt a blown fuse, then he told me to pull the 2 wire plug out of the back of the alternator and put a test light on eash terminal in the plug, he said one should light the test light up bright the other should be dim, I did as he said one wire lights the light up the other doesnt, he said that was more than likely the sensor wire nd with out it any alternator would go crasy, Tested all fuses, all ok, when the car is realitivly cold to just warm the readings on the guage are fine, once it heats up, the voltage goes to 15 and over. called sparky again he said that a wire can be installed to bypass the break in the dead wire, rather than paying him can anyone tell me from the dead wire in the plug, where do I run the other end to? its a 2000GU was origionally a 3ltr but previous owners converted it to a 4.2 so it a large degree the wiring under the bonnet has be barstardised, so I cant go by the wiring diagrams in my manual..... Any advise one where I run the wire to fro the plug would be greatly appreicated...

Replaced the starter today with one I bought off ebay, and it starts with a flick now, Awesome..... Noticed on the casing of the old starter heaps of dents were the previous owners or some one had had to hit the starter many times in the past to get it working.... Took a bit to get it out, had to take off one of the oil filters to get to the top bolt, then oh joy the positive from the battery had a strange bracket on it so had to cut that off and put a normal lug on but all good now, starts like a new car....

Will the 4wd switch out of my old GQ fit and work in the GU?

Can some one tell me where to find the module that I can tap into to install an after market alarm with remote central locking in a 2000 GU, as the "fobs" that came with the car ceased to work properly the other day, some times they will lock but not lock, other times wont unlock but will lock. I know the batteries are probably just going flat but was intending on putting in this DEI alarm system in anyway, can see the wiring diagrams in the manual but can find any reference to the module or where it is locatedAny help appreicated

Can some one instruct me on how to install the Wheel arch and door flares. I bought this 2000 GU about 3 weeks ago and last week end a mate of mine who lacks any sence noticed the door arch flare on the drivers side had a slight gap between it and the door, so he gave it a tug and snapped 2 of the mounts off, I removed the screw from inside upper in door and have glud the mounts back on, but can seem to figure out how they go back on as the slot on the two middle mounts face each other. I will eventually buy a replacement but in the mean time would like to get this flare back on, any tips would be appriecated as I cant find anything in my Haynes repair manual.. Thanks in advance
