  1. Yep ypu will be suprised how much difference controlling the boost makes.
  2. NADS info session for 2013 is go. 8am for an 830 start - Sunday 19 May 2013 in the carpark at Marion shopping centre carpark. Details here http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99750 I'll be there from 8 so come along, say g'day and see how people have fitted the nads mods. 3. Yep just make sure you use the straight barbs, not the right angle barbs. I've had a few right angle barbs block the needle valve inlet! Good to hear you got your boost sorted mate! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  4. Anyone that's interested in seeing what needs doing for these modifications can come along to an info session I'm organising. Details here http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/competitions-events-20/%5Bsa%5D-2013-adelaide-nads-info-session-99750/#post1084135
  5. No worries, I'm glad it helped! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  6. Yep i agree, i keep mine below 450. I actually struggle to get it any higher anyway, with the boost control, EGR closed, bigger exhaust and intercooler im backing off the throttle a heap earlier.
  7. Howdy, I have seen people use all kinds of needle valves but the only one that has consistently given consistant results are the Italian needle valves from dependable distributors. That's not to say there isn't others which are better, but so far I haven't seen one.
  8. I have also just put in an ASE HPD intercooler. I must say the reduction in EGT, and power increase is impressive. These have an underslung 9" thermo fan. If anyone wants my old one, PM me - even has a custom fan and shroud, and all the pipes (including boost gauge spike)
  9. My personal opinion is to do the exhaust but leave the chip out. Once you do the exhaust you will notice an improvement anyway and might not want the chip. IMHO chips are not the best things for these engines, some people flame me for that but putting more fuel into an engine without doing the other mods first isnt a good thing.
  10. I cut a bit of rubber, put two holes in it and cable tied it to the +ve cable so it covers all the positive bits. Works a treat
  11. Looks good mate. There is a guy on grand junction road at the port Adelaide end who does great deals on sealed batteries. 7 years is pretty good but yeah its time for it to go! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  12. I'm just picturing the cases valve and trying to think of the correct words to use to describe which bits need lengthening.. I remember the first time I did this I was turning the wrong bit.. If your gauge is reading a vacuum you either have it plumbed into the wrong place, or the gauge is faulty. Close (or remove) the needle valve and see what that does also. Does it chug ? Cheers Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  13. Howdy john sorry for the late reply. Yes you are heading in the right direction. I might also suggest that the next time you have the spring out that you inspect the ball bearing and the seat in the Dawes. I've heard similar stories and people have found impurities in there. I'm Hoping that when you backed the vent off you didn't adjust the length of the rod, just the stop on top? Just going to read back over your post to sked if I missed anything else Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  14. I just put Bosch plugs in. 100% improvement on the OEM which were probably stuffed. I have also fitted a timer so that they only glow for 30 seconds instead of the full 5 minute burn. This will significantly improve the lifespan of metal tipped plugs. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  15. Are you referring to the boost gauge pipe? What I did was drill a hole slightly smaller than the thread on the barb, apply loktite glue, and screw it in! Hope this helps Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  16. Its simple. If the prospect of someone reading about you on the internet offends you - don't post anything on it. Anything on the internet is accessible, no matter how many boxes you tick. It baffles me why social media is still so popular. Such a waste of time that could be spent talking to real people or enjoying the outdoors. Life is too short to spend it all behind a keyboard and this rubbish is wasting peoples lives while their information is data mined. I had to hire some people not so long ago.. what better way to find out who they really are than ask for someone with a fb account to search for them.. If you make friends with someone who is associated with someone that the cops have an interest in, don't be surprised if they start looking deeper into your profile! I've worked in IT for a long time, bring on these new powers to give access to the spooks. I've got nothing to hide and hopefully it helps reduce crime and stop other nasty shit from happening. My opinion anyway. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  17. I just be getting old cause I just came back from casablabla in the city for dinner and the amount of young things in short skirts might have resulted in me having a broken dipstick too... Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  18. Yeah the new ones are screw in. I managed to get a glimpse of a how to... I'll take some step by step photos as I do it in the morning. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  19. Mmm wish we had aldi...
  20. I have done the glow plug timer mod and have received my new glow plugs - pretty keen to put them in tomorrow morning. The patrol4x4.com forum seems to be dead again (it had the guide on there) so im at a loss about the glow plug replacement procedure. Can anyone spell it out for me? Im guessing that ill just need to remove the intercooler, and maybe part of the inlet manifold to get to the plugs. Any other tips and tricks? Ive got a torque wrench so can use that to tighten up the new plugs. Thanks!!!!
  21. Yeah I agree. My temp gauge was still where it always was - in the middle. I looked at one of those engine saver alarm things but $190 is a bit steep, might make same thing up one day. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  22. My ecutalk saved my engine this morning! I drove into work and noticed that my coolant temps were around 90 when I was idling down. They were creeping up instead of down so I knew something was wrong. Went and checked coolant, top and bottom tanks empty! Filled it all back up (I carry spare coolant just in case) and took it to my mechanic mate fearing the worst. He pressure tested the system and found a split heater hose where a hose clamp had been rubbing on it. Replaced hose, clamps and coolant and away we went. If I didn't notice the temp climbing on the ecutalk I could have been writing a much more somber post here tonight! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  23. Howdy. Blocking the egr is one of the best things you can do to keep your inlet manifold clean, and preventing build up and hot spots around the prone cylinders and pistons. Unfortunately when you block the egr sometimes the system does not compensate for the lack of boost from the egr, you may experiance over or under boost. You mention you already have a chip and exhaust, I would be getting the egt gauge fitted and then the Dawes and needle valve. This way you can control the spool up. By all means you can try fitting the egr shim first to see what effect it does, but make sure you leave enough time in the day to remove it if the results are erratic or undesirable (assuming the car is your daily drive) Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  24. Just had the invitation and placed my order for the raspberry pi... its on its way! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
  25. Looks good! I keep meaning to get mine detailed but there is all ways another trip not so far away so I never do.. One day! Looks good! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
